Rumours of Shaggy's death have been revealed as a hoax with the reggae star coming forward to deny the claims himself.

The rumours started earlier this week online saying that he had been involved in a bar fight during which he was stabbed and later died of his injuries.

The claims were laughed off however with a representative for Shaggy telling TMZ: "I can happily report that he's [Shaggy] alive and kicking and in the same building as me right now as we speak."

The rumours caused a flurry of activity on the internet with fans trying to confirm if the hash tag #RIPShaggy, which began trending on Twitter, was true.

Strangely, this isn't the first time that there have been claims of Shaggy's death online. #RIPShaggy was trending on Twitter in April last year which caused similar confusion from fans and sparked them to take to the internet as they have this time arund.

Very popular in the US, Shaggy is best known in the UK for the songs "Bombastic" and his number one hit "It Wasn't Me". He also received a Grammy Award for Best Reggae Album back in 1995 for his album "Bombastic".
