Nick Grimshaw Loses Radio 1 40,000 Listeners
- in Latest
It has been revealed that the major shake-up that Radio 1 recently had, during which bosses were hoping to attract younger audiences to tune in, has resulted in the station losing half a million listeners.
Nick Grimshaw has come heavily under fire after it emerged that since he took over the breakfast show from Chris Moyles, the slot has seen a drop of over 40,000 listeners.
He is not solely to blame though as the station as a whole has seen a significant decrease in its listener-ship and it seems that a lot of people may have jumped ship with Radio 1’s sister station Radio 2 seeing an increase of a million listeners.
Radio 1’s reach has now dropped to 11.1 million listeners from 11.7 million according to official figures.
The station has seen a number of changes to its DJ line up in the last few months, all with the intent of appealing to a much younger audience.
Nick Grimshaw was bought in as the replacement for Chris Moyles as it was thought he might fit the station’s changing image better.
Long serving Reggie Yates was also replaced with the younger Jameela Jamil as presenter of the Sunday chart show in hopes that she would speak out to the listeners the station hopes to attract.
