The Official Charts Company have announced the induction of another million selling track in the form of Psy’s “Gangnam Style”.
The novelty dance track has become the 129th song to reach the mile stone in the UK and as well as that, it is also the first million seller from an Asian artist.
The song started life on YouTube in a video that saw Psy parody elements of Korean culture and quickly became a hit on the video sharing site, swiftly racking up over a billion views.
Psy landed in the UK Top 40 in September last year, debuting at number 37 before soaring to number 3 and finally reaching number 1 the following week.
Gangnam Style spent a further 17 weeks in the top 10 and went on to become the sixth biggest selling single of 2012.
To date, the song has been number 1 in 27 countries around the world.
Martin Talbot, managing director of the Official Charts Company said of Psy’s achievement: “This is an amazing achievement by Psy. “It is further confirmation of Gangnam Style as a true phenomenon – it is the first UK million-seller by a Korean star, and a sign that K-Pop has truly arrived in the UK!”
