Pop or the popular music is the most popular form of the modern music. It is characterized by the songs aiming at the youth and it contains messages like the messages of love and love stories. Western Pop Music is usually of a short interval.


Pop music is very easy to be identified from the other forms of the music. There are several characteristics that are related by the musicologists as typically related to the Western Pop Music.  Some of the major characteristics of Western Pop Music are briefly discussed as follows.

-    The live performance is discouraged and the recording, production and the technology of music are focused more than any other thing.

-    Western Pop Music often reflects the existing trends rather the old and progressive developments. This is why the styles and the current fashions are affected by the trends shown in the latest pop music.

-    The pop music is generally intended to reduce stress by diverting your attention towards the music rather the usual worries.

-    The dance oriented beats are most commonly used in the Western Pop Music that is why it is also used to encourage dancing.

There are many other characteristics exhibited by the Western Pop Music that characterizes it, for example, the length of the song ranges from two and a half and three and a half minutes and the rhythmic element is consistently noticeable throughout the song.
