All of HMV’s Stores in The Republic of Ireland to Close
- in Latest
HMV has been forced to pull out of the Republic of Ireland completely after failing to find a buyer for its stores there.
The chain did have 16 stores in Ireland which employed some 300 staff who were laid off when the company went into administration last month.
The Irish Examiner released a statement that reads."Since his appointment, the receiver has conducted an assessment of the viability of the company and has actively sought a sale.
"The marketplace is very difficult given competition from web-based retailers and digital downloads, compounded by a number of other factors including high levels of rent.
"All stores were loss-making and it was not possible to attract a purchaser."
Staff have shown their anger towards the company at a number of the stores.
Staff at the Limmerick store organized sit-in protests over claim that they were owed unpaid wages.
Another ex-employee tweeted scathing comments from HMV’s own account while they and a number of other employees were being fired.
It was revealed that a total of 66 stores will be shut in plans to keep the chain alive and that will result in the loss of 930 jobs.
