Apparently Rihanna missed out on the chance to sing on fun.’s massive hit “We are Young”, having been the original artist that was approached to collaborate on the track.
Song producer Jeff Bhasker claims that fun. originally wanted Rihanna to appear on the song but after she was contacted, she never got back to them so in the end Janelle Monae was approached and later secured.
Bhasker told MTV: "[fun.] said, 'Who can we get?' And I said, 'Let's get Rihanna'. We were shooting for the stars on everything and she was kind of a muse."
"Someone tried to reach out and I know she heard the song and liked it. But I think some wires just got crossed."
As well as wanting Rihanna to appear on the song, Bhasker also revealed that “We are Young” was almost given to Jay-Z and Kanye West to appear on their joint LP “Watch the Throne” but that it was decided against at the last minute and eventually was given to fun.
Bhasker added: "They were going to rap over the beat but everything gets changed at the last minute."
It’s unlikely that fun. are complaining as the song went on to be their debut and became a massive hit.
