The UK will be receiving its own walk of fame to honour the best of the music industry.

The walk will be starting with an unveiling of 30 disks this summer and is officially licensed from its more established sibling in Hollywood.

The idea stemmed from British music promoter Lee Bennett who visited the Hollywood Walk of Fame a number of years ago with his 10 year old son. The child asked Bennett why the UK didn't have its own version and so began the process which led to the commissioning of our very own British Walk of Fame.

Bennett is hoping that the project will see the reforming of bands that have long disbanded to attend unveiling ceremonies and is planning to have many special concerts at the unveilings of the disks that should draw in many fans of British music.

Any artists inducted onto the walk will have to fall into one of 5 strict criteria which are innovative artists, influential artists, icons, unsung heroes and members of the industry.

A select group of industry experts will be putting together a shortlist of candidates to become the first inductees and then a public vote will take place in May to select the first lucky artists.
