ITV Cleared of Misrepresenting X Factor Contestant
- in Latest
ITV has just learnt that they will not be facing any comeback over claims that they edited footage so as to misrepresent one of the contestants that were taking part in the audition stages of the X Factor.
The claims were put forward by Zoe Alexander who is a professional Pink tribute act and auditioned onstage for the celebrity judges but was later shown to be getting increasingly violent, throwing her microphone and swearing at presenter Dermot O’Leary.
She later claimed that he was unfairly portrayed as a laughing stock and that producers had ignored her own song choices instead forcing her to appear in her Pink persona and sing a Pink song.
Ofcom have ruled that ITV’s coverage was a "fair summary of the events" and the regulating body said: "Accordingly, Ofcom has not upheld Miss Alexander's complaint of unjust or unfair treatment in the programme as broadcast."
Ofcom also cleared ITV of any wrong doing towards Alexander’s father Glenn Smith in a separate case.
Smith appeared onstage to defend his daughter after she had performed but also claimed that ITV had misrepresented him in the broadcasted edit.
Ofcom rejected his complaint saying: "Ofcom therefore found no unfairness to Mr Smith in this respect."
