Spotify Plans to Launch a Video Service
- in Latest
Not content with making its mark on the music streaming world, music giants Spotify have announced plans which will give services such as Netflix a run for their money by allowing users to stream videos as well as music.
Spotify is already the leader in its market being worth an estimated $3 billion but with their new project they are planning to spread even further to become a one-stop source for music and videos.
Spotify started from humble roots launching in 2008 from a small Swedish company but it has now exceeded 20 million users with 5 million of those paying to subscribe to the service.
The recent rise in popularity can be attributed to the lifting of the five-song limit. This previously meant that users who hadn’t paid to subscribe to the service could only listen to each song five times before they became “greyed-out” and no longer available to listen to.
Spotify themselves revealed the news through a blog and said: "We've got some mighty fine news for all Spotify Free users... There’s no more 5 play-per-song limit. You can listen to your favourite songs as many times as you like.
"That’s right, no more greyed-out songs. The tracks that you couldn't listen to before will once again be available for your listening pleasure."
