Blockbuster Announce Plans to Sell Music
- in Latest
The new owners of struggling retailer Blockbuster have announced that they are planning on moving the chain into the world of music under the watchful eye of former HMV commercial director Gary Warren.
At the moment, Blockbuster is under the restructuring firm Gordon Brothers Europe and the company is planning on moving Blockbusters into stocking accessories such as headphones as well.
Gary Warren has acknowledged that physical sales of both DVDs and music are in decline but he claimed that it is “a predictable decline. It doesn't just shut off like a faucet shuts off.”
Where many other companies are moving more into the online world, making streaming more commonplace, Warren seems adamant that Blockbuster will not be going down that route. He said: “Right now we have no plans to develop a digital offer. We continue to work with [Dish - former Blockbuster parent which controls the digital rights of the brand in the US] on that.”
“We have an online presence, but our focus is on the retail offer. It is a sector in transition, no doubt about it, but there are still customers going into stores, around two million I think.”
