Only One Person Turns Up For Preliminary X Factor Audition

We've all heard that the X Factor’s popularity is slowly waning but it seems that even wannabe popstars have lost interest in the show after it was revealed that only one person showed up in the first hour of the preliminary auditions in Colchester.

The eager wannabe, 40 year old Cher Townrow was the only person at the venue when doors opened and by the end of the day, producers had reportedly only seen 20 potential contestants.

The same audition last year saw 100 people try their luck so it seems to suggest that the show is most definitely losing its popularity.

Unfortunately for Townrow, she failed to impress producers so it is unlikely that she will be appearing in front of the celebrity judges. She told The Sun: "I was walking home and saw it on the sign for the auditions. At home I can sing brilliantly, but it didn't happen here.  I'm surprised no-one else was here. It could have been the cold weather."

A spokesperson for the show was quick to leap to its defence saying: "The X Factor mobile auditions are taking place across the UK this week, allowing budding artists to try out in towns and cities where the auditions tour doesn't reach.

"The numbers attending vary from location to location and are on a par with last year when we found our winner James Arthur. Overall applications are strong for this series and are in line with last year.

"We've had strong turnouts at other locations for the mobile auditions with more than 250 people turning up at Hull and over 100 in Great Yarmouth."
