BBC Radio 1 Signs Four Year Deal With the Official Chart Company
- in Latest
It has been revealed that radio 1 have signed a new four year deal with the Official Charts Company which means that the official countdown will remain on the station up until the end of 2016.
The chart has been presented on Radio 1 in its usual Sunday evening spot for the last 25 years and it looks as though there will be no immediate end to the partnership.
Official Charts Company's Managing Director, Martin Talbot said of the deal: "We are delighted to agree this new deal with the BBC, who are our most valued partners,"
"The fact that we will be on the cusp of marking our golden anniversary with the BBC by the end of this deal highlights just how successful this marriage has been.
"The fabulous Jameela Jamil has been doing a great job since taking over from Reggie Yates in January this year, and we look forward to working with her - and the rest of the Radio 1 Official Chart Show team - increasingly closely over the coming years."
The BBC helped the Official Charts Company celebrate the 60th anniversary of the charts last year and Talbot added: "The world is very different to when the chart was first broadcast on Radio 1 almost 50 years ago - today, the Official Singles Chart is available weekly across a wide range of media, including through the internet, mobile phone subscriptions, TV, print newspapers, magazines, in-flight entertainment services and jukeboxes.
"But Radio 1 continues to provide the appointment to hear the chart unveiled every Sunday - and long may that be so."
