Twitter have today made the launch of their music service named Twitter #music official.

The new service will recommend music for users to listen to based on the artists that they follow and will also show what user’s friends are currently listening to.

Songs are played through iTunes, Spotify and Rdio and as well as being able to follow their favourite artists, they will now also be able to listen to what they are following themselves.

In a statement, Twitter said: "Twitter and music go great together. People share and discover new songs and albums every day. Many of the most-followed accounts on Twitter are musicians, and half of all users follow at least one musician.

"This is why artists turn to Twitter first to connect with their fans — and why we wanted to find a way to surface songs people are tweeting about."

Many artists have responded positively to the app including Wiz Khalifa who tweeted: "Man this new Twitter music app is insane!"

The app is due to be available very soon to iPhone users but it has not yet been announced when is will be available for Android or Windows phones.
