The album, titled Where you Stand is the band's seventh album and will be their first in five years.
Talking about the band's break from music, bassist Dougie Payne said: "You stay away as long as it takes, so you feel that hunger and desire to get back to it same as you did at the start."
Lead singer Fran Healy said to The Metro: "It is really seven years since we recorded The Boy With No Name (which was released in 2007),"
"which is when people remember us last. The bond is as strong as a marriage but we went off to do more important things like be dads.
"I wouldn’t have been there for my son Clay if I had been on the road. But I always knew the day would come when the batphone started flashing again.”
The band are confirmed to be playing at this year's T in the Park festival and are by all accounts looking forward to showcasing their new material.
Healy continued: "I think T in the Park is going to be there for another 20 years because it is run by people who are music fans and who are really good at running festivals. They never fail to put on the best blend of acts. I am so happy I’m doing T in the Park with Travis this summer.
"So many people come on our Facebook page asking if we are playing T in the Park. We just found out a few days ago. T is the best festival."
