Jessie J Forced to Make Huge Payout to Ex-Manager
- in Latest
Jessie J has been forced to pay out £1 million to her former manager at the end of a dispute that has been going on since she entered into the public light.
Raymond Stevenson, who now runs the management company 141a, found the young Jessie while she was attending The Brit School at the age of 15 and in many ways helped to shape her into the artist that she is today.
He helped her to get signed to her first record label and even paid £70,000 of his own money to buy her out of the contract when the company later went bust.
Stevenson later took Jessie to the US and introduced her to many important figures in the music industry over there including LA Reid but Jessie later dumped him and signed up with Crown Talent.
They later secured her deal with Universal Records and the rest, as they say is history.
A deal has now been reached that means that Jessie has to pay out a 20% cut of her £5 million earnings from the sale of her debut album “Who You Are”.
A source said of the deal: "This is an absolutely massive payout. Jessie is signed to the type of huge label who usually just get what they want.
"Ray is extremely well respected, but he runs a relatively small operation and Jessie's people thought he would just roll over."
