Denmark Win Eurovision Song Contest
- in Latest
Denmark managed to emerge the winners of last night’s Eurovision Song Contest.
Emmelie de Forest with her song Only Teardrops was a runaway winner with 281 points which will no doubt have made many punters happy as she was the bookie’s favourite to win.
Azerbaijan came second with their entry Hold Me by Farid Mammadov, ending up with 234 points which was impressive but still not enough to pose any threat to Denmark’s position.
The major losers of the night ended up being Ireland whose entry by Ryan Dolan only managed to accumulate 5 points leaving them in last place.
The UK’s entry Believe in Me by Bonnie Tyler finished a rather disappointing 19th place with 23 points but we could find consolation in the fact that we did better than last year when Engelbert Humperdinck came second to last.
We’re still a long way from the last time the UK won the competition back in 1997 with Love Shine a Light by Katrina and the Waves but a campaign is starting online to get the X Factor’s Rylan Clark to represent us at the competition next year so maybe he can take us all the way to first place.
