Taylor Swift had a very successful evening at the annual Billboard awards in Las Vegas, scooping an incredible eight awards.

She attended the award ceremony to pick up awards for Top Female Artist, Top Country Artist, Top Billboard 200 Album (for the album Red), Top Artist, Top Billboard 200 Artist, Top Digital Songs Artist, Top Country Album and Top Country Song (for We are Never Ever Getting Back Together).

Boy band of the moment One Direction also did well, gaining awards for Top Group and Top Pop Artist.

Taylor Swift showed that she has a sense of humour by poking fun of herself and her relationship with the media as she claimed the awards saying: "You are the longest and best relationship I ever had."

Justin Bieber claimed two awards at the ceremony; Top Male Artist and Top Social Artists and urged the press to ease their criticism of him and his personal life saying: "I'm 19 years old; I think I'm doing a pretty good job. And basically from my heart I really just want to say it should really be about the music, it should be about the craft that I'm making. This is not a gimmick."

"I'm an artist and I should be taken seriously and all this other bull should not be spoken."
