Rock Acts Dominate As Glastonbury Headliners
- in Latest
One of the world's biggest music festivals kicks off this Friday as Arctic Monkeys, The Rolling Stones, Professor Green, Laura Mvula, The xx and Mumford & Sons decend upon Worthy Farm in Somerset, along with an expected 175,000 music fans.
Recent times have seen the line up for all the main stages become increasingly varied with a lot of fuss being made quite memorably over rap icon Jay-Z headlining the Pyramid Stage in 2008 but if statistics are anything to go by, it's rock acts that have been dominating the festival since it's inception in 1970.
Out of the 82 acts that have been headline performers at Glastonbury Festival, an almost mind-blowing 61 of these have been rock acts, with the likes of David Bowie, The Smiths, Bruce Springsteen and Kings Of Leon all taking to the stage.
Pop acts come in second with 6 acts, including Gorillaz, Sinead O'Connor and New Order with The Chemical Brothers, The Prodigy, Basement Jaxx and Moby representing the Dance genre and coming in a respectable third.
Glastonbury starts this Friday, 28th June and carries on through Saturday 29th and concluding on Sunday 30th.
