Kylie Minogue is set to receive the JC Williamson prize for her contributions to Australia’s live entertainment industry.
She will accept her prize at the Helpmann Awards ceremony which is taking place at the Sydney Opera House on July 29th.
Kylie has released a statement saying: "A moment like this makes me so proud to represent the Australian entertainment industry," Minogue said in a statement. "As a country we have, and we nurture, extraordinary talent. Long may this continue.
"For me to be winning an award for being a live entertainer is slightly ironic, it's so long ago I've almost forgot about it, but it is a fact that it used to be a national sport to have a go at me.
"I was terrified on stage at the start of my career. I didn't know what I was doing on tour. It was absolute torture in the beginning because I wasn't confident at performing live, but I soldiered through and now live shows are probably my favourite thing to do.
"To have travelled that journey and now have a reputation for putting on concerts that are real events and mark points in time, I actually feel really proud of that."
The award will pay homage to the star’s outstanding contribution to not only the Australian live entertainment industry but also that of performing arts.
