2013 Set to be the Biggest Year in the History of the Single
- in Latest
The Official Charts Company has predicted that 2013 will turn out to be the biggest year for single sales that the UK has ever seen.
Last year the total amount of single sales rose by 6% to 188.6 million and now only half way through, this year’s sales has topped that by 2.5%.
So far the biggest selling single of the year is Daft Punk’s huge hit Get Lucky which has recently passed the million sales mark.
Follow closely at their heels is Robin Thicke’s Blurred Lines which has sold 828,000 copies in just a month so is on track to take the title of biggest selling single.
Macklemore and Ryan Lewis’ Thrift Shop, Pink’s Just Give me a Reason and Justin Timberlake’s Mirrors take third, fourth and fifth places respectively in the biggest selling single chart of the year so far.
All of the tracks in the top ten have rather impressively managed to shift over half a million copies so though the humble CD single may account for very few sales, the single itself is still very much alive.
