Miley Cyrus’ father Billy Ray claims that he was not endorsing his daughter’s controversial performance at the VMAs despite posting a tweet that seemed to suggest the contrary.

Miley shocked millions of viewers at the MTV award ceremony during her performance of her hit song We Can’t Stop.

She showed up on stage in a skimpy leotard which was later stripped down to a provocative flesh coloured underwear set and showed off her trademark twerking dance move to Robin Thicke whom she was performing a duet with.

After the performance social media site Twitter was flooded with comments condemning the “inappropriate” performance but amidst the backlash, Billy Ray seemed to support hi daughter by tweeting: “Thanking God for so many blessings tonight. Continue to pray for world peace. More love ...less hate.”

He later clarified that he was not referring to his daughter’s performance but rather to the larger issue of the warfare in Syria. He tweeted on Monday: “FYI"Love Not Hate"Late last night I was watching devastating news out of Syria. Chemical weapons used on innocent children is unacceptable!”

He chose not to comment about the nature of his daughter’s performance.
