Elton John Receives Brits Icon Award

Sir Elton John has been honoured in the first ever Brits Icon Awards which took place today ready to be broadcast on ITV next week.
The event consisted of an intimate gig that the entertainer put on and consisted of many of his most popular songs including I’m Still Standing and Sad Songs (Say so Much) which Rod Stewart joined him on stage for.
The event was hosted by mother’s favourite Dermot O’Leary and also featured video messages from a host of influential celebrities including Annie Lennox, Ringo Starr, Yoko Ono and Ed Sheeran.
In a statement Elton said: "It's a tremendous honour and a real thrill for me to have my work acknowledged in this way, and I'm really looking forward to participating in what promises to be a very special occasion."
Chief Executive of the Brit Awards, Geoff Taylor added: “We’re proud to be launching our first ever BRITs Icon Award with an artist of Sir Elton’s incredible stature. He represents the very embodiment of what the BRITs Icon is all about, having achieved a level of creativity, originality, critical acclaim and global success that few others can match.”
