Jimi Hendrix’s ex-girlfriend Kathy Etchingham has slammed the upcoming biographical movie of the legend, saying that the costumes look like something from Austin Powers.

The film stars Andre 3000 as Hendrix and Hayley Atwell as Etchingham and she claims that she has tried on numerous occasions to approach the studio producing the film to offer her assistance though also claims that she was rejected.

"I wrote them an email when I first heard about it [the film] saying, 'If you want any help don't hesitate to contact me'. They didn't reply," she said in an interview.

"[The film's costumes have] Austin Powers written all over [them]; I would not be seen dead in anything like that... Andre and Hayley are much older than Jimi and I were, and it shows... A lot of people will go and see it who have never read any of the biographies and they will think it's the gospel truth. I don't want it [the film] to fundamentally change history."

This isn’t the first time that the film has run in to trouble during production. Hendrix’s estate revealed that they had not authorised the film which means that none of the late star’s music will be permitted to appear in the final film.
