Controversial star Miley Cyrus has beaten One Direction’s VEVO record.

Cyrus’ video for her new single Wrecking Ball managed to beat the boys’ previous record of 12.3 million views in the first 24 hours by passing that mark herself in just 13 hours.

The video has once again meant that the singer has caused controversy as it features Cyrus swinging around naked on a wrecking ball and at other points in the video she is seen being very provocative; something she has recently become well known for.

Cyrus took to Twitter to show her excitement at breaking the record.

"We broke the record :) We hit 12.3 million on vevo :) keep watching #wreckingballonvevo thank you Smilers," she tweeted.

"DONT STOP WATCHING WRECKING BALL WE HAVE 9 Hours More we can get the Views Higher! #WreckedTheRecord."

One Direction has only just claimed the record themselves back in July with the video for their single Best Song Ever.
