Katy Perry has come under fire from PETA for using exotic animals in the music video for her latest single Roar.
The organisation which champions animal rights claims that the animals used in the video are likely to have been poorly treated.
A spokesperson for PETA said that the company that supplied the animals for the video has a poor track record.
Merrilee Burke said: "The Serengeti Ranch, the animal exhibitor that we believe supplied the animals for the 'Roar' video, has been inspected by the US Department of Agriculture 22 times since 2001.
"[It has been given] a total of 13 citations during that time."
As well as criticising the company that sourced the animals, Burke said that simply by being on set, the crew could have exposed the animals to unnecessary stress.
"Animals used for entertainment... endure horrific cruelty and suffer from extreme confinement and violent training methods," she said.
"They often become stressed and anxious when hauled around and forced into unfamiliar or frightening situations."
Perry has previously had a good relationship with PETA after she and ex-husband Russell Brand got married on a Rajasthan tiger reserve.
