Rizzle Kicks Attack Misogynistic Rappers
- in Latest
Rizzle Kicks have spoken out about their dislike of hip-hop artists who produce music which is misogynistic and homophobic.
Rizzle Kicks are originally from London but later moved to Brighton where they then went on to attend the Brit School fame factory to hone their entertainer skills.
Jordan “Rizzle” Stephens of the hip-hop duo spoke to the BBC in an interview where he attacked artists such as Kanye West for their hateful lyrics. He said: "I can't listen to hip-hop at the moment … I really struggle.
"The stuff I'm hearing in the mainstream... it's overly-misogynistic and it's still homophobic. It does my head in."
The duo have fashioned themselves as standard-bearers for a less prejudiced take on the genre although some of their own lyrics have been called into question.
Stephens went on to speak candidly about sexism in a lot of modern rapper’s lyrics saying: I had an ex-girlfriend who was seriously up on her hip-hop, and I played her this song "Clique" with Jay-Z, Kanye and Big Sean.
"The first lyric is 'I tell a bad bitch do whatever I say'. And she just turned around and said, 'what's that?'
"I don't think we know any women - smart women, who you'd want to be friends with, that would proclaim themselves as a bad bitch."
