It has been revealed that this year’s X Factor winner’s single will be released during the week which will mean that it will qualify to be Christmas number one.

The show has avoided wading into the chart battle in the last couple of years but it has now been revealed by the Official Chart Company that the single will be released on Monday December 16th; the day following the final of the show.

The Christmas number one will then be revealed on Sunday 22nd December.

The last winner’s single to reach Christmas number one was Matt Cardle’s back in 2010 with every previous winner claiming the title with the exception of Joe McElderry in 2009.

McElderry’s number one campaign was de-railed by a Facebook campaign to get Rage Against the Machine’s Killing in the Name to number one instead of an X Factor winner.
