A joke relating to Miley Cyrus has been named the best new Christmas cracker joke in a competition.

Television channel Gold started the competition aimed at finding the best Christmas cracker joke after a survey revealed that 70% of the British public do not find jokes they find in crackers funny.

The joke that went on to win the competition was penned by Richard Woolford and goes: "What does Miley Cyrus have at Christmas? Twerky."

Woolford seemed stunned by his victory saying: "I'm totally amazed and can't believe it! I now hope twerking becomes a new Christmas tradition - are you listening, Nan?"

The second and third place jokes are: "Why did no-one bid for Rudolph and Blitzen on eBay? Because they were two deer." and "Mary and Joseph - now they had a stable relationship."
