Sam Bailey has managed to score her first, and Christmas number one with her X Factor winner’s single “Skyscraper”.

Sam won the X Factor last weekend before releasing her winner’s single immediately after the show in digital form. The physical copy was then released on Wednesday and collectively has so far shifted 149,000 copies beating the likes of Pharrell Williams and Leona Lewis to the top spot.

Sam told the Official Charts Company: "Being Number 1 is absolutely amazing!

"It really is the icing on the cake and it means Great Ormond Street Children's Charity and Together For Short Lives will benefit from the single which makes it extra special."

Chief executive of the Official Charts Company Martin Talbot responded: "Congratulations to Sam Bailey, the UK's Official 2013 Christmas Number 1! X Factor winner one weekend, Christmas Number 1 the next.

"Life can't get much better than that, especially when you have taken the crown with one of the biggest weekly sales totals of the year."

Proceeds from the sale of “Skyscraper” are to be split between Great Ormond Street Hospital Children's Charity and Together For Short Lives.
