Marvin Gaye's Family Receive Settlement in Blurred Lines Plagiarism Case
- in Latest
Sony/ATV have agreed to pay a settlement to the family of Marvin Gaye following claims of copyright infringement.
The family of the late singer put forward a case claiming that Robin Thicke's massive hit from last year “Blurred Lines” took elements from the Marvin Gaye song “Got to Give it Up” without prior permission to do so.
Thicke initially sought to deny any claims that he had plagiarised any of Gaye's music but the family then issued a counter claim against Sony/ATV saying that they had not fulfilled their obligation in protecting the work of Gaye.
The record company has since decided to settle with the late singer's estate in order to protect its impartially between the work of the two artists whom it both represents.
Full details relating to the amount of the settlement have not been made public as yet.
