It’s Raining Men Back in Charts as Protest Against Homophobia
- in Latest
“It’s Raining Men” by the Weather Girls is set to hit the charts again, 30 years after it was first released.
Facebook users started a campaign to get the song back in the charts as a protest against UKIP councillor David Silvester wrote an open letter to David Cameron which included offensive comments on gay marriage and blamed it on the recent poor weather.
Silvester said: "Since the passage of the Marriage (Same Sex Couples) Act, the nation has been beset by serious storms and floods. This is not new. This happened in the Old Testament - they were warned if they turned against God there would be pestilence, there would be war, there would be disasters."
The Facebook campaign aims to get users to buy “It’s Raining Men” by way of protest against the offensive nature of the comments.
One of the campaign’s organisers, Darren Pop said: "We believe that the show of strength to get a song to Number 1 will create a huge spotlight on our campaign for equality as a whole. The song, if you like, is our catalyst and part of the bigger message."
