Carly Rae Jepsen Loses Legal Battle
- in Latest
Carly Rae Jepsen, along with Owl City have lost their legal battle for copyright infringement.
The song in question was 2012’s hit single “Good Time” and it was claimed by singer Ally Burnett that it was too similar to her own song “Ah, It’s a Love Song”.
A judge has now ruled that the similarities between the two songs are considerable and that BMI, the song’s royalties company must pay a sum of $800,000 in damages.
It was the second case of this nature that Jepsen has been involved in, the first surrounding her massive hit “Call Me Maybe”.
Ukrainian singer Aza had claimed that the song was similar to her own “Hunky Santa” although the case was later dropped.
