Katy Perry has become the first person on Twitter to surpass 50 million followers.

The singer is now the most followed person on the social media site being just under a million followers ahead of her nearest rival Justin Bieber.

Katy currently has 50,163,640 followers whilst Bieber is lagging behind with a mere 49.34 million.

US President Barack Obama completes the top three and is officially the most followed political figure with 41.27 million followers.

Perry has recently enjoyed further chart success and her ninth number one single in the US with the latest single from her album “Prism”, “Dark Horse”.
