Jared Leto has revealed that he managed to damage his Oscar shortly after receiving it at the award ceremony on Sunday.

The actor and 30 Seconds to Mars front man picked up the award for Best Supporting Actor for his role in the film “Dallas Buyers Club” in which he played a transgender AIDs sufferer.

Leto revealed in an interview this week: True story: I was letting some of the people that I work with take a picture with the Oscar, and I was carrying [the trophy] downstairs and boom  I hit the railing on the stars and I put a little nick in the back of it. It's already lived in, as they say."

He went on to reveal that he keeps his award in a rather unusual place: The Oscar is sitting in my kitchen guarded by some vegan butter and a bag of popcorn," he said.

"That is the first place I go when I go home, you put your keys down, you take off your jacket and you put your Oscar in your kitchen”
