Nick Grimshaw’s contract with BBC Radio 1 has been extended for a further two years it has been revealed.

The DJ will now be staying on until at least 2019 with a Radio 1 spokesperson saying: "Nick's got into his stride now."

Grimshaw initially took over the Breakfast show from Chris Moyles in 2012 and ratings for the show saw a decline to the lowest in ten years but have now rose to the same level that Moyles saw in his first year.

Last week Grimshaw was forced to finish his show early and was rushed to hospital after swallowing glass live on air.

He was unharmed by the incident and later joked that his career in the circus was over before it started.
