Emeli Sande has spoken out to criticise shows such as the X Factor and the Voice for “exploiting” people’s dreams.

She said that she would love to see more songwriters on such programs rather than taking advantage of people who are simply pursuing a career in the music industry.

"I just wish there was more songwriting on those shows," she said in an interview with the Guardian.

"And when they exploit dreams, that's heartbreaking.

"That's what pisses me off. Don't do that to people just so we can watch it on TV.

"If people get a chance to do something they dream of, you can't be snobby towards that."
