Austria won last night’s Eurovision Song Contest with their entry “Rise Like a Phoenix” by Conchita Wurst.

The song finished the night far ahead of the other entries with 290 points.

After winning, Wurst told the audience: "This night is dedicated to everyone who believes in a future of peace and freedom. You know who you are - we are unity and we are unstoppable."

The Netherlands came second in the competition, closely followed by Sweden.

The UK’s effort by Molly entitled “Children of the Universe” managed a paltry seventh place, only having 40 points overall.

The theme of the evening was togetherness and featured a closing musical number by all of the contestants for the first time ever in the contest’s history.
