The employee at the Standard Hotel who leaked the video of Solange Knowles attacking brother in law Jay-Z on the internet has been fired.

The person in question had recorded the footage from one of the security monitors and passed it on to gossip website TMZ.

"[The employee was] responsible for breaching the security policies of the hotel and recording the confidential CCTV video released by TMZ," a statement said.

"The Standard has already terminated the individual and will now be pursuing all available civil and criminal remedies."

The hotel added that it would be "turning over all available information to the criminal authorities".

The Standard Hotel has expressed its disappointment at the leak in the days since the incident.
