Sir Paul McCartney has been admitted to hospital suffering with a viral infection.

Paul was due to play two shows in Japan this week but was forced to cancel them due to his health.

His condition has since worsened and forced him to be admitted in to hospital for treatment.

A spokesperson said: "Since contracting a virus that led to the postponement of tour dates, Paul received successful medical treatment at a hospital in Tokyo.

"He will make a complete recovery and has been ordered to take a few days' rest. Paul has been extremely moved by all the messages."

Paul himself previously released a statement earlier in the week saying: "Thank you so much for your kind messages of support. I'm so very touched. Unfortunately my condition has not improved overnight.

"I was really hoping that I'd be feeling better [on May 20]. I'm so disappointed and sorry to be letting my fans down."
