Lionel Ritchie has spoken out to describe the recent performance from the Michael Jackson hologram “a little bit over the top”.

The hologram performed at the Billboard Music awards in order to promote Jackson’s posthumous album “Xscape”.

Critics generally widely praised the show put on by the hologram but Ritchie was much less complimentary saying in a recent interview: "It was freaky.

"I must tell you, it freaked me out because it's Mike.

"I have to tell you it was brilliantly done, but it just made me a little uneasy because it was just… I keep waiting for him and then I realise that is him, but it's not him."

He further added that he much preferred to remember Jackson as he was in life rather than the hologram used to portray his image
