There are a number of characteristics that come in one’s mind while thinking of the modern Western Music. Sometimes it is only the instrumentation that differentiates the Western Music from the other types of music. Western Music is often said to be a complex form in a dense, and harmonic vertical fashion.

The Western Music is also differentiated from the other types of music on the basis of the standard western tuning system which is known as the equal temperament. The eastern scale contain only five notes where as the Western Music scale contains seven or more notes.

No one knows the exact origin of the music but it is obvious that the human beings used the musical patterns in order to produce different sounds to amuse the people around you or to lure animals into a hunt.

The first musical instrument is though to be the human voice as it can produce a wide range of sounds. In case of musical instruments, clapping is thought to be the first type of instrument used. The early humans used stones to produce sounds by hitting them together.

The sound of pounding seeds and the roots into meal is thought to be the very first rhythm created by humans. The pipes and flutes were made of the hollow bones of the animals and the oldest flute made out of a bone is found to be almost fifty thousand years old.

It is also thought that the music was evolved some sixty thousand years ago. Harp is the most common and complicated musical device and it dates back to five thousand years. All the species on earth have their own music, such as the human beings have their own music and the birds and animals have their own, making the music complex to be completely understood.
