Lady Gaga Plagiarism Suit Dropped
- in Latest
A lawsuit accusing Lady Gaga of plagiarism for her song “Judas” has been dropped by a judge in the US.
Chicago based musician Rebecca Francescatti bought the case forward claiming that “Judas” plagiarised her song “Juda” from 1999.
The judge ruled that: "as a matter of law the two songs are not substantially similar."
US District Judge Marvin E Aspen went on to say: "The songs do not share enough unique features to give rise to a breach of the duty not to copy another's work. Accordingly, we grant Defendant's motion for summary judgement."
Aspen went on to state that Francescatti had failed to establish a similarity between the two songs.
He continued: "We find that Francescatti has neither established that the elements are protectable nor has she established a unique combination of these unprotectable elements.
"No reasonable trier of fact could find that the songs' expressions are substantially similar."
