Frances Bean Cobain has said that her mother Courtney Love has helped teach her “survival” in a tweet for her 50th birthday.

The pair have had very public disputes in the past but Frances has now spoken of her gratitude towards her mother for making her the person that she is today.

“Happy birthday to my unorthodox/free spirited mother @Courtney thanks for teaching me to embrace creativity & survive,” Frances wrote.

Courtney later retweeted the message along with other birthday wishes.

Love had caused a stir previously by posting a list of “50 obsessions I couldn’t live without” which included : “Let's start with my favorite. And that would be: Sex. Obviously.

Frances came in at number two on the list.
