The Beatles Still as Popular as Ever with iTunes
- in Latest
With the release of the Beatle’s back catalogue on iTunes, 37 spots in the UK top 200 iTunes chart are occupied by the band that arguably influenced more bands than any other.
The band which formed in the sixties, now account for 15% of iTunes chart have achieved this in 24 hours of being released. The songs that seem to be most popular with fans are not the well known, radio friendly numbers, but more obscure ones such as Blackbird, and Hey Bulldog. Hey Jude, is their highest entry at number 37.
Coincidently, the Rolling Stones track Gimmie Shelter is also in the top 200. This old gem is not part of a promotion by the Stones or Apple, and yet seems to have lost none of its popularity.
With these two cornerstones of music still contending with more recent artists, questions are asked about the quality of today’s bigger acts and why after all this time, music lovers are downloading Beatles and Stones songs rather than someone contemporary.
The entire back catalogue of the Beatles can be bought for £125 from iTunes, which considering the quality of the music and the quality of the competition, does not sound like a bad deal.
