Dr Dre, the legendary rapper and producer is to release his long awaited album in February next year. The album is his first for over a decade. His last album ‘2001’, which was released in 1999, received critical and commercial success. It also provided a good platform for Dre to showcase his production skills and studio craft.

Dre is revered in the rap scene as being one of the best producers of the genre, and many stars with global appeal have stated publicly that they owe a lot to the man for their success. This is the main reason Dre’s releases are over a decade apart, as his studio skills and ‘take’ on the rap scene are always in demand from artists inside and outside rap. It is fair to say that should Dre’s hand not be present on so many artists’ albums, they would not have been as successful as they were.

Dre’s future album will feature collaborations with Eminem, Snoop Dogg, Akon, Jay-Z, La Roux and The Game. The album’s first single, ‘Kush’, is available to hear at the moment.

In terms of styles and themes, fans of Dr Dre will have to wait until February 2011 to find out what the good doctor has in store for them.
