“Sweet Lou’s Blues” is Lutalo “Sweet Lu” Olutosin’s excellent new jazz vocal recording. Sweet Lu is best known for being a truly funky jazz singer; he is set to rock the jazz world with his new creations!

In his Sophomore release Sweet Lu teams up with an accomplished crew of New York’s Jazz Experts including; Jeremy Pelt (Trumpet, courtesy Highpoint records), Multi-Grammy winning saxophonist Tivon Pennicott (Tenor Sax & Flute), Master drummer Jerome Jennings (Earnestine Anderson, Hank Jones, Sonny Rollins), Double bassist Mike Karn (Ray Charles, Jimmy Heath), Maestro and former Wynton Marsalis musical director Antonio Ciacca (Piano, Arrangements).

The dynamics of this Sextet presents an offering of Soul-Jazz, and Vocal renditions that range from tunes like ‘Theme for Malcolm’ to Lu’s homage to Joe Williams’ Ev’ry Day I Fall in Love”. This CD grooves with a retro-modernistic style that is simply priceless. One of the many highlights of the project is Lu’s lyrical interpretation of Dexter Gordon’s solo on Herbie Hancock’s ‘Driftin’ recorded in 1962. “Sweet Lu” shows off his lyrical dexterity on this project with his original lyrics to seven of the recorded tunes.

Produced under the watchful eye of internationally acclaimed musicologist Antonio Ciacca at Tedesco Studios, (N.J.) Lutalo “Sweet Lu” Olutosin’s latest CD (Sweet Lou’s Blues) is a jewel that every jazz aficionado with a keen ear for jazz vocal work absolutely must have in their collection.

Influences include Thelonious Monk, Jon Hendricks, Al Jarreau, Miles Davis, Wynton Marsalis, Art Blakey, Herbie Hancock, Horace Silvers, George V. Johnson and others.

Sweet Lu’s previous release, Tribute To Greatness“, received high marks from several reviewers, as shown below:

“Lu brings a Soulful and Dynamic energy to every song… Jazz USA, Jazzusa.com (Feb 07, 2012)

“This cat can HANDLE jazz vocals… http://www.sweetlumusic.com/fr_home.cfm Rotcod Zzaj”   Rotcod Zzaj, IMPROVIJAZZATION NATION (Feb 03, 2011)

Far from mere imitation, Olutosin sings these compositions in his own relaxed way, never sacrificing clarity for fireworks.   C. MICHAEL BAILEY, All About Jazz (Nov 17, 2010)
