The cello virtuoso and composer known as Andrea Bauer has released her latest LP record, “Cello Songs from Planet Earth.” It is her most significant official release since her prominent and popular 2001 full-length album, “Cello Songs for Silence.” It comprises nine original tracks for an approximate total listening time of 45 minutes. Warm, meditative, and thrumming with the sonic undercurrents of life, “Cello Songs from Planet Earth” is a collection of contemporary cello pieces for fans of imaginative classical music everywhere.
For her main artistic influences, Andrea Bauer cites J.S. Bach's romantic compositions for cello and the ambient music of Brian Eno. Imagining a balanced blend of their respective styles and tones closely approaches a likeness of her “Cello Songs from Planet Earth.” Additionally, Bauer's new record adds eastern instrumentation and spiritual themes for a more exotic and contemplative experience. This is not to imply that the album aims at complexity. On the contrary, minimalism is the founding principle which gives her considerable songwriting such subtle power and intriguing textures.
Andrea Bauer's official bio describes her music as oscillating “between rapt devotion, noble simplicity and atmospheric grandeur.” Her records seamlessly unify classical music, world music, and music intended for meditation, resulting in a rare amalgam which has made her a favorite among fans of chamber music and practitioners of yoga, alike. In addition to enthusiastic listeners of her cello, her debut release, “Cello Songs for Silence” garnered her a loyal and enthusiastic fan base in the spiritual, New Age, yoga and meditation subcultures.
Asked to comment on the messages her record may have in store for fans, Bauer first quotes the 13th-century Persian and Sufi poet, Rumi: “Let yourself be drawn by the stronger pull of that which you really love. It will not lead you astray!”
Pressed for more, she writes that her music encourages the listener to “Focus on the inner realms and richness of his or her being, which is source energy, and let love rule and transform his or her life.”
Andrea Bauer is a member of the globally respected Berlin Symphony Orchestra (Berliner Symphoniker). She has regularly performed at the Berlin Philharmonic Hall and embarked on tour worldwide. Her “Song for Eli” is the only featured music in Asghar Farhadi's multi-award-winning film, “About Elly” (Silver Bear at the 2009 Berlinale, 1st Prize at the Tribeca Film Festival, and more). Bauer has also collaborated with Michael Hoppe (former head of A&R for PolyGram who signed New Age acts such as Vangelis, Jean Michel Jarre and Kitaro, and who re-signed ABBA and the Who). She worked with Hoppe on the Grammy-nominated album “Solace” as a solo artist.
“Cello Songs from Planet Earth” by Andrea Bauer is available online worldwide. Cello fans and avid listeners of spiritually minded music should get in early.
