Can’t resist a good melody? This week, WiFi PR Group showcases three artists from Indie Anthems Vol. 9 who understand melodic progression and have crafted irresistible lines for the Indie Anthems audience.
While a good melody is crucial to any song, certain artists find ways to emphasize the importance of a mesmerizing melody for the allure and longevity of a song. Think about classic Beatles melodies that stick in your head for days on end—these are the melodies that are impossible to forget. This week, WiFi PR Group features three artists from Indie Anthems Vol. 9 who understand the significance of a powerful melody and produce stunning melodies of their own on their tracks.
Held October 21-25 in 80+ venues throughout New York City, CMJ Music Marathon showcased more than 1,300 artists for over 125,000 attendees, who were exposed to some of the top talent in underground music. The festival is a prime source of music discovery and serves as the foundation of success for many new artists. CMJ was the perfect outlet to release Indie Anthems Vol. 9, and WiFi PR Group handed out 3,500 download cards to festival attendees to spread the word about the album’s featured indie artists.
For a taste of the classic melodies of musicians like Tom Waits or The Black Keys, Marty O’Reilly and his band’s track “Cold Canary Gaslight” harnesses a melodic focus for the bluesy folk realm. The intro lures in listeners with a light picking melody that sounds both melancholy and hopeful at the same time based on the heart-wrenching vocals and well-placed harmonies. The most laidback of this week’s three featured tracks, Marty O’Reilly highlights the importance of an enticing and beautiful melody that can tell a story on its own without the lyrics.
Korean rocktronic trio HEO make their opening synthesizer melody an irresistible focal point for their track, “Luna,” as whispering vocals swoop in to coo listeners into a relaxed state of musical fulfillment. Making a bold statement in their home country, HEO is now making a splash in the U.S., which has landed them a coveted spot on the Indie Anthems Vol. 9 lineup and in this week’s trio of featured tracks. They offer an aesthetic akin to M83 or My Bloody Valentine while maintaining a rapturous sound that’s all their own.
Representing Boulder, Colo., smash folk is The Sun And The Moon with their track “Geneva.” To kick off this piece, a tight, driving melody is led by a deep bass line before a complementary vocal track drops in with its own melody. The vocals occasionally mirror the bass line, while also employing swooning harmonies to add complexity. The bass line remains prominent throughout the piece as opposed to the guitar featured by many other folk bands, and this is just one way this band’s uniqueness landed itself on this week’s featured Indie Anthems tracks.
Another 1,500 digital downloads of Indie Anthems Vol. 9 can now be downloaded from the Indie Anthems Bandcamp page. The previous eight Indie Anthems installments are also available for streaming and downloads, while supplies last.
