Jenni Finlay Promotions proudly announces ace songwriter Kevin Welch as her newest management client. “I'm over the moon that Kevin has signed me on to manage him,” Finlay says. “Kevin's a perfect fit for my roster, all extremely literate songwriters who sing and write for the sake of the song. His songs are studies in depth and weight, compelling narratives that move me to the core every time I listen. Plus, he's a really great guy, a fun hang and a true friend. I couldn't be happier.”

Welch has charted five singles since moving from Oklahoma to Nashville to pursue songwriting more than forty years ago (“Stay November,” “Till I See You Again,” “Praying for Rain” among them). However, he's made his most significant mark as the writer behind several country standards as well as successful collaborations with fellow songwriters Kieran Kane and Fats Kaplin (including 2004's You Can't Save Everybody and 2007's Kane Welch Kaplin). Welch moved to Central Texas seven years ago where he recorded the highly acclaimed A Patch of Blue Sky (2010).

“I'm really happy to team up with Jenni Finlay, a woman we've all admired for several years now,” says Welch, whose songs have been recorded by Garth Brooks, Waylon Jennings, Ricky Skaggs, Trisha Yearwood and several other country stars. “She's smart and soulful and she knows how to get things done. I feel inspired to make some more dreams come true, and that's a big deal.”

Finlay, a highly successful radio promoter who's catapulted Ray Wylie Hubbard, Ben Kweller, McMurtry and dozens more, recently expanded her focus toward artist management. Graham and McMurtry immediately signed on as her first two management clients. “I came up with her motto,” Graham jokes. “Jenni Finlay Promotions: Managing the unmanageable.” McMurtry responds more seriously: “At this point, there wouldn’t be much of a James McMurtry business were it not for Jenni Finlay Promotions,” McMurtry says. “Jenni is now poised to take over the world.”

Finlay humbly accepts the praise. “I'm honored to have the opportunity to promote the amazing artists and music I love,” she says. “I love this family of devout music business folks, dedicated radio personalities and supportive music-loving fans. They all inspire me each and every day. I'm so grateful to everything and everyone who has gotten me to where I am today and I can't wait to see what's next.”

What's next already includes branching out into several other creative projects. Finlay recently submittedKent Finlay, Dreamer, a book she wrote about her father (Cheatham Street Warehouse owner Kent Finlay) with Brian T. Atkinson, author of I'll Be Here in the Morning: The Songwriting Legacy of Townes Van Zandt,to Texas A&M University Press. Additionally, Finlay, Atkinson and Shinyribs' Kevin Russell have nearly completed production on Cold and Bitter Tears: The Songs of Ted Hawkins, a tribute record due out on Finlay and Atkinson's Eight 30 Records this fall. Also, look for Finlay's debut poetry collection Table for One(Mezcalita Press) early next month.
