Matt Cardle, the favourite to win the television talent show, X – Factor, made it through the live semi –finals despite giving what the singer termed his ‘worst performance’.  Nonetheless, the Essex lad avoided the sing off to go through with flying colours.

Matt Cardle, who has won several plaudits for his ability to sing high notes has won many fans in the course of the series. He has often been a figure of controversy, and has criticized many on his way to the finals. His voice however, seems to sit well with the public and at time of writing he is the favourite to win the show.

Matt Cardle qualified with Rebecca Fergurson, and One Direction, with Cher, winning the sing off against Mary Byrne.

The winner of the finals will receive a recording contract to record one album, and for nearly all the contestants this is ‘their dream’.

Mary Byrne went out by a vote of three to one after the sing off, with Simon Cowell having the casting vote which sealed the Irish ladies fate.
